Responsible governance helps HSDT protect its charitable purpose, manage risk and provide sustainable opportunities for young people and communities.
Our Governing Structure
Haringey Sports Development Trust is a Charitable Company Limited by Guarantee, incorporated on 25 January 1994. The organisation was established under a Memorandum of Association setting out the objects and powers of the charitable company and is governed under its Articles of Association.
The Directors of the company are also Charity Trustees and, under the Trust's Articles, are members of the Management Committee.
Trustee Oversight
The Trustees provide strategic and financial oversight of the charity and consider the needs, direction and sustainability of the Trust's work. Members of the Management Committee are elected for three-year terms and are required to be re-elected at the appropriate General Meeting.
Risk Management
The Management Committee reviews the major risks to which the charity is exposed. A risk register is maintained and reviewed at least annually, with procedures established where appropriate to mitigate identified risks.
The Trust also applies safeguarding and operational controls to its sporting activities. Coaches and staff undertake relevant governing body coaching, First Aid, Child Protection and Equity in Coaching training, and events organised by the Trust are risk assessed.
Financial & Internal Controls
The Trustees review the adequacy of the charity's internal controls, including its financial controls. These systems are designed to provide reasonable assurance against material misstatement or loss.
- A Strategic Plan and Annual Budget approved by the Trustees.
- Regular consideration of the charity's financial results.
- Delegation of authority and segregation of duties.
- Identification and management of risks.
Public Benefit & Accountability
The Trustees' Report records that the Trustees have regard to Charity Commission guidance on public benefit. The Trust's governance arrangements are intended to ensure that its resources and programmes continue to support its charitable objectives and the communities it serves.
Working Within Our Objects
Where complementary to the charity's objects, HSDT is guided by local and national initiatives and by local needs. This helps the Trust remain responsive while maintaining its focus on its established charitable purposes.
